When you become a neurologist physician assistant, you will work with a neurosurgeon and assist him in most tasks, including detailing medical histories, interpreting lab results and performing exams. You will also have to discuss as well as implement both inpatient and outpatient treatment. In addition, you will have to make diagnoses in patients.
There are also some hospital duties that you will have to do, including closing wounds, assisting in surgeries and reviewing CT scans and MRIs. And by being a neurologist in PA, you are also going to make rounds.
What Do You Need as a Neurologist PA?
“A physician assistant in neurosurgery usually has a master’s degree. All states will require PA’s to pass the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination, and a year of on-the-job training is required to specialize in Neurosurgery Assisting. Neurosurgical PA’s will also need to complete 100 hours of continued medical education every two years and pass a recertification exam every six years in order to keep their PA certifications active” Study.com
Before you can work to become a neurosurgery PA or a PA radiology, you will need a master’s degree as well as pass the PANCE or Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination. In addition, you will need to complete one year of OJT that you need before you can specialize in neurosurgery assistance. More so, you should be able to complete 100 hours in the continued medical education, which you need every two years. In this case, you will also have to pass an exam for recertification that you will need every six years to renew your certification.
In addition to these PA program requirements, you will need some essentials skills, such as enjoying dealing with difficult patients and being able to make emergency decisions in a quick manner. In this case, you should be organized and self-motivated because you will have to assist and perform many duties as well as juggle with many patients, even without immediate supervision.
